Who I am and how I practice
I work in a setting of confidentiality and trust where you can talk about anything you need and want to. You may wonder what 'mere' talking can do to change situations that have persisted for years. Well, the neurosciences show that the act of talking changes our brain structures, activating previously inhibited or unused pathways and enabling those parts that promote control over negative emotions and foster positive ones. In fact talking in depth permantly alters both brain structure and its chemistry, as opposed to medications whose effect lasts only as long as they are taken.
My task is to help you find the answers to the problems, pains, dissatisfactions and frustrations that intrude on your life. On the way you will have the chance of discovering your own desires, realities and goals as well as the emotional and mental obstacles that get in their way.
Often when we are in the grip of depression, panic, or in relationships that are unsatisfying or hurtful we have a hard time seeing the forest from the trees. A skilled therapist, by listening and understanding, can ask the questions that lead to a new perception, an enlarged vision of the problems and then solutions can be created. This will allow you greater control over your feelings, thoughts and life situations, which in turn will enhance your sense of competence and self regard.
You will develop the strength to banish self-doubt, fear and emotional turmoil, and you will gain self-knowledge, self-confidence and personal growth so you can become who you want to be. Talking to me who is trained to listen to you and understand you, without imposing their values on you, is a wonderful and gratifying way to create positive changes.
I received my degrees from the University of Pennsylvania and California Southern University. I also trained at both the Philadelphia School of Psychoanalysis and the Institute for Modern Psychoanalysis in New York. I learned how to help patients with all kinds of psychological distress, in a deeply healing process. Part of my training is to work on ourselves, in order to experience the process first hand.
In addition to my private practice, I am an Instructor, Supervising and Training Analyst at the Colorado Center for Modern Psychoanalytic Studies.
