Talking cures, no matter what the medium!
My work relies primarily on verbal communication in all its cognitive and emotional richness. It is what we say to each other, how we listen and express ourselves that creates change in our mind and body. In fact speech is a powerful action we can take, after all the influence of words on us is huge, for better or worse.
Working on the phone has many advantages.
- Some of you live in areas where it is hard or impossible to receive the highest quality service
- It may often be inconvenient traveling to your therapist's office, because of work, kids, having to be out of town and many other obligations
- Physical problems can make travel onerous and dangerous
- You may not feel comfortable leaving your home, which would make in person meetings a source of anxiety rather than solace
- If you are in a state of transistion betweeen different geographic areas you may need support, yet don't know where you will be next
These are just some of the reasons why working on the phone can be very helpful and appropriate to your circumstances
Sometimes it is hard to think of working with a therapist without seeing them because of a fear that this experience will be less real or meaningful. I have a lot of experience with this kind of work and would be glad to discuss this with you to explore difficulties and find solutions.
